About Hotel Villa Isla de la Juventud
This hotel-villa, in a peaceful, picturesque setting, offers you recreational activities, excursions, trips of places of historic interest (such as the "Model" Prison) and evening entertainment in its cabaret.
Hotel Isla de la Juventud Villa is about one mile southeast of Nuevo Gerona, amid woodsy surrounds on the eastern bank of the River Las Casas (a suspension bridge leads across the river). The post-modernist Cubist design makes bold use of the local gray marble hewn from nearby mountains peaking over the treetops. The complex is built around a swimming pool, which draws local families on weekends, when the music gets cranked up and guests seeking peace and quiet are plain out of luck. Facilities here are meager. There's a plain restaurant with gray marble sparkling underfoot, plus a small games room. The 20 air-conditioned and spacious bedrooms are in two-story blocks, each of four units. Although rooms were recently refurbished to serve foreign tourists, they're still only functional, with simple rattan decor. © 2010 Nigel Hunt

Guide to Nueva Gerona
It is the capital of the island and the only thing that constitutes anything remotely resembling a town,
It is a busy and relatively prosperous town and the small but colourful streets have a provinvial Latin America, rather than distinctly Cuban, feel about them. Many of the African students who study on the island are based here and the town has a more cosmopolitan atmosphere than most other towns and cities outside Havana. Also they contribute towards the island's citrus fruit industry.
Parque Central on Calle 39 is the place where many of Nueva Gerona's young congregate. At weekends it is also home to some excellent live salsa and if you are visiting the city this is a good place to start, it is also home to the local tourist information office and to the most of the town's cafes and restaurants.
Outside Nueva Gerona you can find Model Prison, El Abra Museum, Beach of Black Sand and Punta del Este Caves....
